Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to end another sensational year on a high, by claiming the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or award next week.
So tight is three-time winner Lionel Messi's grip on the prestigious trophy - given out annually to the world's best footballer - that it has almost been forgotten that the Real Madrid forward actually won the award in 2008, during his time at Manchester United.
The Barcelona sensation continues to usurp Ronaldo in terms of goals, assists, skill, and worldwide recognition, but 2012 could finally be the year that the Portuguese prodigy is rewarded for his fine form over the past 12 months.
After spearheading Jose Mourinho's side that wrestled the La Liga title from the greatest team ever, Ronaldo's 46 goals went some way to securing the domestic crown.
Among those goals was the winner at Camp Nou back in April, which all but confirmed the 2011/12 title would go to Real Madrid.
Then, in Euro 2012 the 27-year-old almost singlehandedly confirmed his nation's place in the knockout stages of the competition, with two goals against Holland in the final group game. Ronaldo also scored the quarter-final winner against Czech Republic, before Portugal's elimination against eventual winners Spain on penalties.
His impressive form has continued this campaign as well, with two goals in the Super Copa to help Real Madrid lift another trophy, and another memorable brace in the first instalment of this season's La Liga Clasico, securing a point for Mourinho's men and a record of scoring in each of the last six Clasico matches.
With 14 goals already to his name, Ronaldo will be Real Madrid's last remaining hope of clawing back Barcelona's lead at the top of the Primera Division, as they look to defend their title.
In tribute to Ronaldo's individual brilliance, GMF invites you to watch the above video of his 2012 highlights, and leave a comment below to celebrate his ongoing impact on the modern game.
