Coventry City fans will be delighted to hear the news that on-loan Derby County starlet James Bailey will be extending his stay at the Ricoh Arena until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who signed for the Rams back in 2010 from Crewe Alexandra, has been a regular component in Mark Robins' starting XI this season, playing 18 games for the Sky Blues, scoring one goal.

Despite making a promising start to life at Pride Park, Bailey found himself out of the first-team picture following a succession of injuries which ruled him out of contention for a number of weeks. And, after failing to regain his place in Nigel Clough's side, Bailey made a temporary switch in order to secure regular first-team football.

Speaking to the club's official website, Mark Robins said: "I'm absolutely delighted. He's shown in his time with us the contribution he can make and I just want to thank Derby for letting us have him for the rest of the season.

"I hope now that James can continue to have the kind of impact he's already shown he can have for us."

Sky Blues fans will be hoping this is not the only loan deal to be extended ahead of the January transfer window, with David McGoldrick - the League One top goalscorer - also looking to extend his stay with the club after impressing during a loan spell.

With a host of Championsip clubs alerted to his availability after his 18-goal haul, there is no guarantee that the Nottingham Forest striker will remain at the Ricoh Arena, but whatever happens, the 25-year-old frontman will look back on his time at City with great fondness.

Speaking to, McGoldrick said: "My time at Coventry has been really special for me.

"I have a massive respect for Mark Robins and everyone at the club. I know they have been doing everything they can to keep me, but at the moment everything is uncertain because of what has happened at Forest.

"Whatever happens – and at the moment I don't know what will – Coventry will always have a place in my heart."

McGoldrick is available to face Shrewsbury Town on New Year's Day in what will be the last game of his loan spell after missing the 3-2 success at MK Dons through suspension.
