Manchester United are amongst the Premier League clubs being linked with a move for highly-rated Norwegian defender Vegard Forren.

The five-cap international is being linked with both the Red Devils and Everton in The Sun, whilst The Daily Mail claims Fulham and Sunderland are all tracking the player.

The Mail goes on to report that the Cottagers have launched a bid for the player, who was pulled out of the Norway national team squad following a £4 million offer.

Former Manchester United star and current Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the bid, and that the club are in the final stages of negotiations ahead of a possible move away from the Aker Stadion.

“Vegard is not travelling to the national team camp, because we are in the final stages of negotiations with another club,” Solskjaer is quoted as saying in The Daily Mail.

“It's possible that Vegard will go for a medical check-up and negotiate his personal contract.”

Whilst Solskjaer did not confirm which club made the offer, Sky Sports ‘understands’ that it is indeed Martin Jol who is pursuing the player most vigorously.

Manchester United have enjoyed positive experiences with Norwegian players in the past, with Solskjaer, Henning Berg and Ronny Johnsen all enjoying success at Old Trafford.

Forren could be the next Scandinavian star to play under Sir Alex Ferguson, but the club appear to have a domestic fight on their hands if they want the talented 24-year-old, and will have to move quickly if they are to prevent Forren from moving to west London.
