The 21-year-old winger - who arrived in west London in a £7million deal from Racing Genk last January - is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell in Germany with Werder Bremen.
And, De Bruyne is said to be enjoying his time in the Bundesliga so much, that he wants to return again next year.
With four goals and five assists for Bremen so far this campaign, the Chelsea loanee has attracted admiring glances from a number of clubs in the German top-flight, and the Premier League club could be tempted into selling him in the summer.
De Bruyne finds himself way down the pecking order in Rafa Benitez's first-team squad, with Eden Hazard, Victor Moses, Marko Marin and Oscar all ahead of him, despite arriving later than he did to the Chelsea party.
"Yes, it is possible that I will stay in Bremen," the attacking midfielder told German newspaper Bild. "In the summer, I will talk to Chelsea and see what happens next.
"Why should I not continue to play in the Bundesliga?"
With regular first-team football likely to be difficult to come by at Chelsea, a transfer might be best for both parties at the end of 2012/13.
