Arsenal target Chilean striker in January loan deal

Arsenal are being linked with a loan move for Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas.

The Daily Express claims Arsene Wenger has set his sights on the 23-year-old as a ‘quick fix’ up-front at the Emirates Stadium, with a deal for Gunners legend and New York Red Bulls hitman Thierry Henry seemingly dead in the water.

Arsenal lack options up-front this season, with in-form Theo Walcott and French international Olivier Giroud the only senior attackers available in north London after Marouane Chamakh left on loan last week.

And, whilst Vargas appeared set to join Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo, the Express cites reports on when claiming that Arsenal have offered £800,000 to bring the player to the Premier League on loan this month.

The move would be with a view to a permanent deal in the summer, according to the paper, with Vargas yet to score a goal in Serie ‘A’ after completing a move from Universidad de Chile to the Stadio San Paolo last January.

Vargas did have a good goalscoring record in his homeland before moving to Italy however, and Wenger will hope the player can replicate that form if he does indeed join Arsenal during the current transfer window.
