Real Madrid are currently residing in third place in La Liga, five points behind city rivals Atletico Madrid and 16 points behind Barcelona, but that isn't the end of their current troubles.
It seems a little strange that manager Jose Mourinho continues to leave arguably the best goalkeeper in the world on the bench - club legend and team captain, Iker Casillas.
Calling up Antonio Adan Garrido in place of the Spaniard for Madrid's recent home tie with Real Sociedad was a decision greeted by a chorus of boos by the Bernabeu crowd, according to The Telegraph.
His choice to field the 25-year-old backfired on Mourinho after just five minutes when Adan's misjudged pass to defender Ricardo Carvalho was taken on by Carlos Vela, who was upended by the Real Madrid keeper and was shown a red card for his troubles. Fans' favourite Casillas then came on but was unable to save the resulting spot-kick.
Unfortunately for the 'Special One', his choice of keeper was not the only point of controversy in his team. Real Madrid played with an extremely weakened back-four made up of on-loan Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, promising 19-year-old Raphael Varane, 34-year-old Carvalho and right-back Alvaro Arbeloa.
With Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Marcelo and Raul Albiol all injured, and with Sergio Ramos suspended, Mourinho was left with very few options at the back. Despite the lengthy list of absentees, Madrid managed to run out eventual 4-3 winners of Sociedad, despite the crowds apparent discontent.
With an inconsistent team that seems to lack continuity and togetherness, Mourinho looks to have a real challenge on his hands if he wishes to win back the fans, the dressing room, and maybe even the league title.
As such, people are starting to speculate whether Mourinho's time at the Bernabeu may be coming to an end, and given the current disharmony at the club, it may just be a matter of time before the 49-year-old is on his way out of the club.
