Unbelievable open-goal miss by Brazilian U20 player

Here at GMF, we love a good open-goal miss, a bit more than your average football website.

We've had a few contenders for the worst miss of the season, indeed just yesterday it was Zlatan Ibrahimovic under the microscope after his terrible howler against lowly Ajaccio - a miss that would prove costly as the scoreline ended 0-0.

But that shocker is nothing compared to this little gem that has been unearthed on YouTube. Marcos Junior, the Brazilian U-20 player, has genuinely put forward a contender for not only the worst miss of this year, but of any year.

Playing against Uruguay, Marcos Jr looks certain to score as he follows up on a shot that has been palmed out by Mathías Cubero in the Uruguayan goal.

However, channelling the spirit of Ronny Rosenthal (look it up kids), the Brazilian youngster somehow puts his shot wide, despite having an open goal in front of him and without a defender in sight. He managed to get on the scoresheet earlier on, but that wasn't enough to prevent his side from going down 3-2.

His miss however really does beggar belief. Check it out above and let us know if it is the worst miss you have ever seen. We're pretty confident it will be.
