Chelsea will reportedly assess the credentials of Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simeone and Michael Laudrup following Pep Guardiola's decision to join Bayern Munich, while Jose Mourinho remains the favourite for the Stamford Bridge job.

Bayern Munich announced the capture of Guardiola on Wednesday afternoon, much to the disappointment of Chelsea, and the former Barcelona boss will succeed incumbent Jupp Heynckes on July 1.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea had initially approached Guardiola last summer prior to the full-time appointment of Roberto di Matteo, but the Catalan was intent on spending time with his family on sabbatical in New York.

Chelsea were reported to be planning another move for Guardiola at the end of season with Rafa Benitez only in interim charge, but Roman Abramovich must now look elsewhere for his next appointment.

The Guardian claim that Abramovich, who has patched up his differences with Mourinho since the Portuguese's departure in 2007, is likely to approach the Real Madrid boss, who is favourite with the bookmakers to join the Blues in the summer.

Along with Mourinho, who is expected to leave Real Madrid, Chelsea are also reported to be considering Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid and Swansea manager Michael Laudrup.

Klopp led Dortmund to successive Bundesliga titles ahead of Bayern Munich, while Simeone won the Europa League with Atletico last season, and sees his side placed second in La Liga this term.

Laudrup, meanwhile, has impressed at Swansea since replacing Brendan Rodgers, and displayed his credentials last week when the Welsh club beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Capital One Cup.
