La Liga side Real Betis are reportedly trying to sign either Francis Coquelin or Emmanuel Frimpong from Arsenal in January.

According to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, Betis are worried about the future of Jose Alberto Canas, whom has been linked with Swansea City, and are searching for suitable replacements.

The report claims Frenchman Coquelin was at the top of their list but the injury to Gunners vice-captain Mikel Arteta meant the initially receptive Emirates Stadium officials soon changed their tune.

However, it goes on to say that the Spaniards have identified the 22-year-old’s teammate Frimpong as another possible option through a connection with an agent.

The combative midfielder is currently on loan with Championship side Charlton Athletic after failing to break back into Arsene Wenger’s first team plans following recovery form ruptured knee ligaments, which were sustained while on loan with Wolves.

Both players are reportedly admired for their work rate and ability to win back the ball in midfield.

Arsenal already have a link with real Betis, as Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell has spent the season on loan there a she attempts to become eligible for a UK work permit and join up with the Gunners squad permanently.
