Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has conceded defeat to Barcelona in the race for the Primera Division title this season, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The 49-year-old spoke openly in an in-depth interview that is due to be broadcast on French radio station RMC Sport later this afternoon, with Spanish newspaper AS, publishing several key points of discussion on their official website in advance.
With the reigning Liga champions already 15 points behind runaway leaders Barca in the 2012/13 standings, the Portuguese tactician revealed that his focus is now on the Copa del Rey and the Champions League - as he bids to become the first manager to win the European Cup with three different clubs, following previous successes with FC Porto and Inter Milan.
"The La Liga title is impossible now, there is too big a gap," said Mourinho. "We have to focus on other goals like the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
"It does no good to obsess over these things, obsession only makes things more complicated. Nothing will be easy. We need to stay calm and make the most of every opportunity."
Victory in the Champions League this year would also mark Real Madrid's tenth European Cup triumph - a feat that Mourinho is determined to achieve before leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite reclaiming the domestic crown last season, the former Chelsea boss' future in the Spanish capital is growing increasingly uncertain, with constant rumours of player unrest, and unhappiness among several of the club's directors.
But, the controversial figure - who has a reputation for being outspoken - was eager to play down his reputation damaging reputation, having drawn unwanted attention on several occasions.
"People talk about controversies that don't exist," he added. "Every day I hear about controversies concerning me but are unfounded.
"I am a football coach, I am just doing my job and trying to get good results."
