Neymar had admitted Dani Alves has put him in an awkward position by publicly declaring the Brazilian youngster should join Barcelona.
The Santos forward has been linked with a move to Europe for some time now and is reportedly heading to move to Barcelona in 2014, after the World Cup in the same year, to be held in Brazil.
Neymar said of Alves' comments in an interview with Fifa.com: "Dani’s always embarrassing me! He’s put me in a tight spot."
The 20-year-old is expected to lead Brazil's charge for glory on home soil in 2014 before departing for Europe, but many, including Brazilian legend Ronaldo, have urged him to head to Europe before then in order to avoid his development being curbed.
However Neymar believes staying in Brazil until after the World Cup will not affect his development, and says he is still growing as a player in his home country.
"You can develop and improve your game whether you’re in Brazil or not," he said.
"Personally I feel I’m becoming a better player and getting more experience as every year goes by. Some people say you have to leave to develop but I don’t agree with that.
When pushed about his his future, the talented youngster would only say that he did not know what he would do beyond 2014.
He said: "My contract runs to 2014 but there’s still a long way to go before the World Cup. I don’t know if I’ll renew it or not. It’s a personal issue and I’ll have to talk it through with my family and Santos. We’ll definitely speak about it further down the line."
Neymar is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in world football, and was South American football's only representative on the long-list for the 2013 Ballon d'Or.
He was also one of the three finalists for the FIFA Puskas Goal of the Year award, but just missed out on winning the award for the second year running.
"That’s just how it’s worked out, and it’s not like I’m out there on the pitch trying to score fantastic goals," he said about missing out on the award to Fenerbahce's Miroslav Stoch. "Thanks to God I’ve managed to score some very nice ones and more than anything else they’ve been good enough to get me to the Gala."
