Everton transfer target Fernando Amorebieta is set to snub a new Athletic Bilbao contract, possibly paving to way for a move to Goodison Park, according to talkSPORT.

The Venezuela international has been offered a new five-year deal worth £8.5m to stay at the La Liga club, but Amorebieta is reportedly ready for a new challenge.

The 27-year-old graduated from the Athletic Bilbao academy, and has gone on to make close to 200 appearances for the Basque club.

But Bilbao are undergoing something of a transformation, with key players up for sale - Javi Martinez has already moved on to Bayern Munich, while Fernando Llorente will quit the club for Juventus at the end of the season - and Amorebieta could be the next in line to leave San Mames Stadium.

The Venezuelan defender holds a Spanish passport, so any move would not have to clear work permit hurdles.

The report claims David Moyes is an admirer of the centre-back, and could move to sign the player as cover for first-choice pairing Sylvain Distain and Phil Jagielka.

One player who will not be signing for Everton is FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer. The Netherlands international had looked set for a £8.6m switch to join the club, but the BBC reports the deal was called off after a medical revealed a problem with the midfielder's knee.

The Toffees face West Brom at Goodison Park this evening, hoping for a win to put pressure on fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Their closest rivals for a Champions League spot travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich, while fifth-placed Arsenal entertain Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
