Over the past few seasons, Liverpool, who have won the England's top division 18 times, have been slowly declining towards the middle of the Premier League table.
Most fans have forgotten the days when Liverpool would challenge for the title, and would settle for nothing less than a top four finish.
However, in recent years, the Anfield outfit have struggled to qualify for a position in the Europa League.
After Rafael Benitez's departure, Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish tried to restore Liverpool to their former glory, but were unsuccessful.
The players bought during this time, apart from top-scorer Luis Suarez, have struggled to contribute. Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam were brought in to try to bring Liverpool back into the top four, costing the club over £80 million.
However, none of these players have performed as though they deserved to be in a title-challenging side.
Finally, Brendan Rodgers has started to spend money on players that can elevate the team to a higher level of football.
Daniel Sturridge is a fantastic signing, fitting in perfectly with Liverpool's 4-3-3 formation, partnering Sterling on the opposite wing with Suarez leading the line.
The Reds now need to focus on building their midfield, and that is where Philippe Coutinho comes into the equation.
Coutinho will undoubtedly be joined in the midfield by club captain and legend Steven Gerrard, who has once again been instrumental for Liverpool this season.
With Jonjo Shelvey, Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen fighting for the last spot in a promising midfield, Liverpool finally look like they can return to trophy-winning ways.
