Roberto Mancini and Manchester City have made the right decision in deciding to part company with the mercurial Mario Balotelli.
His move to AC Milan is in the best interest for all parties.
The talented Italian has courted controversy throughout his short Manchester City career and his often fiery relationship with his manager and the authorities has overshadowed his clear footballing ability.
Manchester City are trailing rivals Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title and need a strong team unit if they are to defend the crown they won last season. Mancini recognises this and for his own future at the club, he has had to act.
Balotelli has not played a significant role this season and when he has played his performances have not been consistent enough to warrant dislodging the likes of Sergio Aguero from the side.
Mancini has often substituted him and has never been afraid to show his frustration at a perceived lack of effort and lack of respect.
Their recent training ground bust-up and clear volatile relationship could not continue at the expense of the team. The negatives have definitely outweighed the positives throughout his City career.
Balotelli could have a long career ahead of him but unfortunately it will not be at City. City fans will obviously miss the entertainment factor and unpredictability that a character like Balotelli provides but I am sure they will sacrifice this for more success.
No player is bigger than the club.
The Premier League has lost a big star but, for the future of Balotelli and Manchester City, his return to more familiar surroundings will help a career in danger of falling apart.
