Neymar has sounded another warning to Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott and the rest of the England squad ahead of Brazil’s friendly at Wembley with another scintillating performance for Santos.

Neymar was on fire once more as Santos brushed aside Paulista rivals Sao Paulo 3-1 to maintain their place at the top of the regional championships.

Brazil’s new superstar was clearly in the mood at the Vila Belmiro and was at the centre of all the action as he orchestrated a resounding win for his side.

Neymar’s beautiful first-time touch off set up Ezequiel Miralles to calmly stroke home the opening goal – they gathered at the corner flag for a little celebratory dance in the aftermath.

A hallmark of Neymar’s brilliance is his ability to pick up the ball deep and surge past opponents towards the goal and he did just this for the second; he was far too quick for the Sao Paulo defence and drew a foul inside the area.

The resulting penalty was calmness personified, sauntering forward and rolling into the corner to double the lead – this time the goal was followed with a Neymar solo jig.

A glimmer of hope arrived for Sao Paulo as they made it 2-1 for a time after a fantastic free-kick from forward Jadson, but any expectation of a revival was short-lived.

Santos’s third was a repeat combination of the first, with Neymar swinging in a delicious cross for Miralles to nod home easily from a few yards out and restore the two-goal lead.

When Neymar finally decides to make the switch to Europe, he is going to be hard to stop wherever he goes if he continues in his current vein.
