Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has admitted feeling as “unsettled” as he has ever done at the Anfield club, coming soon after being linked with a move to rivals Manchester United and Barcelona.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, the 30-year-old revealed the difficulty of adapting to the new philosophy and style of play that has been installed since Brendan Rodgers took over in the summer.

However, Reina’s recent improvement will likely be forgotten in the wake of his mistake for Sergio Aguero’s equalising goal in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Sunday evening.

The Spain international came out to meet a through ball but the Argentinean got there first and curled a delicious finish into the empty goal.

Reina was obviously at fault but Aguero’s finish from so far out and at such a tight angle was sublime and a goal not many strikers could have pulled off.

The former Villareal man has now revealed the uncertainty behind the scenes at Liverpool since Rodgers came in a made so many fundamental changes to the way the club was being run.

“This has been the most unsettled season, both personally and as a team, since I joined the club,” he said.

“Liverpool is going through a transitional period, with new ideas and a different playing philosophy. That takes time. People have to be patient. It's normal for us to be erratic.”

Despite a difficult early season, the Merseysiders have begun to improve and the pair of 2-2 draws at Arsenal and Manchester City respectively showed signs of significant development.
