Tottenham target Damiao will be one of 'top strikers in the world'

Tottenham target Leandro Damiao is destined to become one of the best strikers in world football and would thrive in the Premier League, according to Brazil teammate Ronaldinho.

The 23-year-old was the top goalscorer during last summer's Olympic Games in London, and has been linked with a transfer away from his native Brazil and into one of Europe's most prominent leagues.

Tottenham were reported to have made a bid to sign Damiao on transfer deadline day as Andre Villas-Boas looked to reinforce a forward department left threadbare by the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Spurs, however, will have to re-enter the race for Damiao in the summer if their are serious about signing the Brazilian and, as Ronaldinho would testify, there are unlikely to be the only club wanting to sign the Internacional hitman.

"Damiao is going to be one of the top strikers in the world," Ronaldinho told the Daily Mail. "I read that he is being linked to the Premier League - the style of his play would make him very dangerous there."

Despite his burgeoning reputation, Damiao is not included in Luiz Felipe Scolari's Brazil squad selected to face England at Wembley on Wednesday.

Ronaldinho will be there, however, as will Brazil's newest superstar and Chelsea trio David Luiz, Oscar and Ramires.
