Arsenal legend Liam Brady believes Jack Wilshere has all the ability to become one of the very best in the game.

Wilshere has returned to action for Arsenal strongly after 18 months out of the game, and Brady believes he has moved past his injury hell and can now kick on and become one of the best.

Brady, who made more than 200 appearances for the Gunners between 1973 and 1980, said: "We were all a bit nervous — it was 18 months — but he has improved with every game and his performance against Liverpool was outstanding."

“I think he will be up there with the very, very skilful creative English player."

The Irishman, who will step down from his role as director of Arsenal's youth academy next year, also believes Wilshere will soon be on a par with English greats of years gone by, as well as modern day players like Wayne Rooney.

"In my time it was Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne came after that and then Wayne Rooney and I think Wilshere will be in that mix," he said.

“I think he is leading the Arsenal team now, his pace is deceptive.

"He has a funny running style but he drifts past players and he’s only going to get better.”

Wilshere should feature in England's friendly against Brazil tomorrow, while former Arsenal full-back Ashley Cole is in line to win his 100th cap for the Three Lions at Wembley.

Brady said: “I think, like Ashley, Jack is going to go on and play a lot of games for England.”

The 56-year-old also had his say on Wojiech Szczesny's problems in the Arsenal goal, and has advised the Polish international to watch videos of goalkeeping greats from years gone by.

“I told him, ’Don’t go looking for trouble, don’t come charging out of the goal’, he said. “I played with two of the very best goalkeepers in Pat Jennings and Dino Zoff.

“He probably hadn’t heard of him but I told him to google them and watch them.

"They didn’t go looking for trouble, they just dealt with the trouble when it arrived.”
