Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez insists he would welcome the competition offered by Robert Lewandowski should the Bundesliga leaders beat Manchester United to the signing of the Polish international, according to talkSPORT.

Gomez has found his first-team opportunities limited by the summer arrival of Mario Mandzukic this season, but the Germany international would welcome Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena.

The Borussia Dortmund star has been linked with a move to Manchester United, although recent reports earlier this month claimed Bayern Munich have stolen a march on the Premier League club in the battle to sign the 24-year-old.

Dortmund have since rebuffed suggestions Lewandowski could be set for the Bavarian giants, but the report claims a scramble for his signature is likely to start in the summer.

And Gomez insists he doesn't fear the competition for places at the Allianz Arena, even though the potential arrival of Lewandowski would further harm his chances of regaining his first-team place.

Speaking to Italian site tuttomercatoweb, Gomez said: "I'm not afraid of anyone. The club must be clear and tell us what is happening, even if it is not my role to comment on the situation. The only thing I can say is that strikers will feel at home in Bavaria. We shall see."

Both Manchester United and Bayern Munich lead their respective domestic leagues, and both have progressed to the last-16 of this year's Champions League - as have Lewandowski's Borussia Dortmund.

But the Poland international has been continually linked with a move away from the reigning Bundesliga champions, and both suitors could make their move at the end of the season.
