Jonny Evans believes Manchester United have no reason to fear playing Real Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow - because it will be just like facing Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Manchester United take on Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 tie at the Bernabeu tomorrow, with the home side the slight favourites to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The Red Devils are likely to encounter a white-hot atmosphere at the Bernabeu with Los Blancos aiming for a historic 10th European Cup title.

United must also figure out a way to stop an on-fire Cristiano Ronaldo - but Evans believes none of that will bother Sir Alex Ferguson's side, because they have the experience of playing in fiercely competitive matches against domestic rivals Liverpool and local title rivals Manchester City.

We can't be daunted,' he told reporters.

'We are Manchester United. Teams look up to us as well.

'I am sure the same pressures will be on them. They have good players who can hurt you but we play against Premier League opposition every week and that is one of the best leagues in the world.

'It is just as if we were playing against Manchester City or Liverpool. They are top players and we have to be spot on.'

Manchester United face a tough run of fixtures following their win over Everton on Sunday, and will take on Reading in the FA Cup on Monday after they return from Spain.

Rather than being intimidated, Evans insists Manchester United are relishing the challenge of so many games in quick succession.

'In my first season after coming back from loan at Sunderland we won the Carling Cup, the league and got to the Champions League final,' he said.

'At the time I never thought there were so many games because you generate momentum.

'This season we came through Christmas brilliantly, which is down to the manager being able to rotate the squad and having the confidence in all the players so they don't feel as though they are fatiguing.'

As Jose Mourinho said on Sunday, it is a fixture 'the world is waiting for'.
