Didier Drogba is set to make his first appearance for Galatasaray on Friday evening when his new club take on Akhisarspor, according to the Hurriyet Daily News.

The former-Chelsea striker joined the Turkish league leaders from Shanghai Shenhua in the January transfer window, and is poised to make his debut in the Super Toto Super League match.

The Ivory Coast forward returned from the Africa Cup of Nations to a hero's welcome at Izmir airport, and the team bus reportedly took half an hour to negotiate the screaming fans before Drogba and co could set off for their team hotel.

The 34-year-old penned an 18-month contract with the Turkish giants towards the end of last month, after a difficult eight-month spell in China.

FIFA granted Drogba a temporary playing license earlier this week, and the report claims he stands to earn €10m over the course of his contract, with a €15,000 appearance fee bonus for every match played.

The 2012 Champions League winner will also get the chance to defend the title he won in stunning fashion with Chelsea last season.

The Ivorian scored the winning penalty as the west London club won their first ever Champions League, but that was Drogba's final act as a Chelsea player before he left for Shanghai.

That move didn't work out though, and a transfer to Galatasaray gives the striker an opportunity to feature in the Turkish club's last-16 tie against Bundesliga side Schalke on February 20. The Turkish club also signed Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan during the January window.
