Arsene Wenger held a 45-minute emergency meeting with his Arsenal players after their shock FA Cup 5th round exit against Blackburn on Saturday.
The Gunners last realistic chance for a trophy this season evaporated with the 1-0 defeat against Rovers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday - they face German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday - prompting Wenger to keep his side in the dressing room after the game to deliver a few home truths.
According to the Daily Mail, Wenger also reached the conclusion that ailing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny must be replaced at the end of the season, with Liverpool's Pepe Reina lined up as his replacement.
The Polish shotstopper has failed to find any level of consistency during his time with the Gunners and was briefly replaced by Vito Mannone earlier this season, although that was partly because of injury.
The 22-year-old hardly covered himself in glory in the build-up to Colin Kazim-Richards' winner after 72 minutes on Saturday, palming a well-struck shot from Martin Olsson in to the path of the Turkish international, whose mis-hit strike fortuitously nestled in the Arsenal net.
And that appears to have been the final straw for Wenger, who has resolved to replace Szcesny with Reina in the summer.
According to the paper, Stoke's Asmir Begovic, Swansea's Michel Vorm and Sunderland's Simon Mingolet have also been scouted.
Reports elsewhere suggest replacing Szczesny could be the first of many changes for the Gunners in the summer.
Wenger will reportedly have £70 million to spend in the summer in order to fire Arsenal back up the league and into contention for trophies.
Arsenal's League Cup exit at the hands of Bradford in December, coupled with the fact they currently sit 21 points off Premier League leaders Manchester United mean they look odds-on to finish without a trophy for the 8th consecutive season - unless they can pull off an unlikley charge for Champions League glory.
