Tottenham will reportedly use Thursday night's Europa League meeting with Lyon as an opportunity to run the rule over Lisandro Lopez, after missing out on the Argentine striker in the January transfer window.

According to Metro, Lopez appeared set to join Spurs on transfer deadline day last month, before Lyon backed out a deal to leave the north London club without forward acquisition they appeared to desperately need in January.

Gareth Bale's sensational recent goalscoring form has temporarily masked Tottenham's need for goalscoring reinforcements, but Metro claims Andre Villas-Boas is already making plans for the summer transfer window, and has identified Lopez as a target.

Spurs will meet Lyon this week in the second leg of their last 32 Europa League clash having won 2-1 in the first encounter at White Hart Lane, and Lopez could reportedly find himself undertaking an audition.

The 29-year-old was substituted in the final minute at Spurs following an ineffectual display, and is likely to have to deliver a more threatening performance in the return fixture if he is to secure a summer transfer.

Lopez has scored nine goals in 23 appearances for Lyon this season, and could provide Spurs with the experienced support they need for current strikers Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
