Newcastle United have taken a strong squad to Ukraine as they look to reach the Europa League round of 16 when they take on Metalist Kharkiv tonight.

With the game evenly poised at 0-0 after the first leg, Newcastle will be without Hatem Ben Arfa who has only recently returned to training after suffering a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since December.

The Magpies are expected to stick with the ever-impressive Tim Krul in goal, with a defence that could see recent signings Massadio Haidara and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa included.

Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Simpson are likely to make up the rest of the back four, although Steven Taylor is also in contention for a starting place.

It looks increasingly likely that Alan Pardew will go with five in midfield, with Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and another recent addition in Moussa Sissoko making up his middle three.

That would leave space for Jonas Gutierrez and former Manchester United man Gabriel Obertan on either wing.

It’s likely Pappiss Cisse will occupy the lone striker role, which means Shola Ameobi will have to settle for a place on the Toon bench.

Newcastle predicted line up v Metalist Kharkiv:

Tim Krul; Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Fabricio Coloccini, Davide Santon;Cheick Tiote,Yohan Cabaye; Gabriel Obertan, Moussa Sissoko, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse
