Tottenham Hotspur drew with Lyon in the knockout stages of the Europa League but won 3-2 on aggregate after a late goal from Mousa Dembele in France.
With the limited strikers that the Spurs have and the injury to Jermain Defoe, attention has turned to the Welsh Winger, Gareth Bale to bag a few goals rather than Emmanuel Adebayor. The current run of bad form for the Togolese forward has raised eyebrows amongst Spurs fans because of the perceived lazy performances that he has showed.
Adebayor joined Tottenham permanently in the summer from Manchester City having spent the 2011/12 season on loan at White Hart Lane. The former Arsenal man looked like a very promising individual, after netting 18 goals from 37 appearances (0.49 goals/game) and set up 11 goals for his team.
The wages of Adebayor reflected his high performances of the season when he signed with the Lillywhites, bagging himself around £100,000 per week.
After a great season and high praise from the fans, most expected big things again from him when the football season restarted. However, he seems to have hit a run of bad form and it doesn’t seem to shift. He has only netted 2 goals this season from 15 in the League (0.13 goals/game) without setting up any of his team mates. This seems to show that he is fairly non-existent on the pitch and it begs the question – what is he actually doing for the 90 minutes?
However, after a much improved performance from Adebayor against Lyon last night, some of the fans are high in praise for the player ‘Spurs Aficionado’ (@michaelc1961) tweeted: ‘Big shout for an much improved shift from Adebayor! Better! Now take the rest of the season by the short hairs and kick on’. Not every Spurs fan was happy with his performance however. Glen Sykes (@glen_sykes) tweeted: ‘Think it's time to say bye to in the summer. He is just not interested!
I think we have a lot to see from Adebayor in the next coming months and he may be crucial to the Tottenham side whilst fighting for the Champions League spot at the end of the season.
