Roberto Mancini has discussed Manchester City's transfer strategy for the summer - pinpointing Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Liverpool star Luis Suarez as two potential targets, according to the Guardian.

The City boss also admitted Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao would be another player he's interested in.

Mancini freely admitted that last summer was a disaster for the defending Premier League champions, and he believes most of the blame for City's current league standing can be attributed to their failure in the transfer market.

City have since hired former-Barcelona man Txiki Begiristain as the club's director of football, and Mancini revealed he's delighted with the appointment, saying "we now have people who know their football."

Mancini's side were quiet in the January transfer window, but they're expected to be busy this summer, with a replacement for Mario Balotelli top of the agenda.

And the City manager admitted Cavani is on the shortlist.

"I like him, but all the world wants him," Mancini told the Guardian. "There are big players. I don't know what can happen. Suarez plays for a top team like Liverpool. Cavani plays for Napoli."

City are not the only team looking at Cavani however, Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.

And the two Premier League teams could be head-to-head over Radamel Falcao as well. The Colombian international, like Cavani, would fit well in the Premier League, according to Mancini.

He said: "Cavani and Falcao would work in England. They have experience. Both players are 26, 27. They are good enough to play in England."
