With eleven league games remaining, this is shaping up to be one of the worst seasons for a long while.
That might be a bit harsh, but after last year's excitement and final day drama, this term has failed to live up to expectations. Normally, we have a two or three horse title race, a huge relegation battle involving eight or nine teams (at this stage) and several sides battling for fourth place.
This campaign, the title has all but gone to Old Trafford, only Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal are looking like claiming the Champions League places and it looks to be two of four teams struggling to avoid the drop as QPR cannot pick up wins. Let me expand:
Many readers may be thinking back to what happened in last year's title race, and yes, if you judge it on last season's statistics you cannot rule Manchester City out after they recovered eight points with just six games remaining.
The difference is this term Manchester United have been scoring more goals, and many crucial ones. It's not entirely based on Robin van Persie's heroics; other players such as Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney have pitched in. Not only that, they have goals coming from the likes of Patrice Evra, Jonny Evans and Rafael as well.
Manchester City on the other hand don't have strikers in the form of last season. Sergio Aguero lit up the division along with a returning Carlos Tevez but now they are struggling to close games out. Their top goalscorer is Edin Dzeko and he's predominantly a substitute.
Now, with Queens Park Rangers looking doomed we have Reading, Southampton, Aston Villa and Wigan hoping to avoid the two last relegation spaces. From Sunderland upwards, every team looks to have the required quality to avoid getting dragged into the battle with eleven games remaining.
This means with a third of the season left, the fans don't really have much to lift them off their seats in anticipation.
Champions League qualification
Chelsea's lack of form has seen Arsenal and Spurs catch up, and they look like challenging their Champions League prospects. This could be the biggest, most exciting fight this year as Everton and co seem to have lost their way in the league of late.
Only two teams can qualify for Europe's most prestigious competition with the two Manchester clubs already out of sight so watch this space as it looks to be an enthralling end to the campaign...........the only exciting end at present.
Do you think the title race is still alive? Can the likes of West Ham and Sunderland get drawn into the relegation battle, or even QPR escape? Post your views and opinions below..........
