Interim Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez says he will remain in charge of the club until May, and says he has an excellent relationship with club owner Roman Abramovich.

Benitez appeared to be on the verge of losing his job after he lashed out last night at Chelsea supporters who have jeered him throughout his time in charge of the club because of his links with Liverpool, saying the didn't need to worry about he because he wouldn't be carrying on in the job next season.

Speaking after Chelsea's FA Cup 5th round win over Middlesbrough, The Spaniard also said the reason he was disliked by fans was because Chelsea officials installed him as "interim" boss, making it difficult for him to assert his authority, something he described as a 'massive mistake'.

Reports earlier today suggested Chelsea could be gearing up to sack Benitez just four months after naming him as Roberto di Matteo's replacement, and bring in Avram Grant to take charge of the club on a temporary basis once more, having done so in 2007 after Jose Mourinho left Stamford Bridge.

However Benitez told the BBC that he was not in danger of losing his job any time soon.

"The players are fully behind our ideas, 100%," he said when questioned if he had lost the confidence of his players.

BBC presenter Dan Walker also wrote on Twitter that Benitez had told him that he would remain Chelsea boss until the end of the season, and spoke positively of his relationship with Abramovich.

Despite his instance otherwise, Benitez faces a tough task in winning back the fans before the end of the season.

Chelsea sit two points behind Tottenham in fourth place and face a battle for Champions League qualification, while he is likely to be greeted with a hostile reception when Chelsea take on West Brom at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
