Ugly scenes broke out in Argentina on Friday night as a player was struck in the face by a bato-wielding riot police officer during the meeting between Newell's Old Boys and Belgrano in Rosario.
The police had originally entered the scene to take heavy handed action on the Belgrano support shortly before half-time, with the visiting fans littering the field with various objects.
Belgrano's players admirably approached their supporters in an attempt to establish calm as the police waded in, but only proceeded to exacerbate the already volatile situation.
The riot police and players began to scuffle when the former took exception to the involvement of the latter, before Belgrano defender Gastón Turus received a baton to the face for his troubles.
Thankfully Turus was nothing more than shaken by the incident, which you can watch in the video above. 101greatgoals can take the credit for bringing this to our attention.
