Barcelona weigh up Tottenham star as Victor Valdes replacement

Barcelona have put together a three-man Premier League shortlist to replace Victor Valdes, with Tottenham star Hugo Lloris, Manchester United’s David De Gea and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina under consideration, according to the Sunday People.

Valdes is set to leave the Nou Camp when his contract expires at the end of next season, and the Catalan club want a ready-made replacement in place this summer.

Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon in an £8m deal last summer, but he’s emerged as a candidate to fill the number one jersey for Tito Vilanova’s side.

The 26-year-old France international displaced Brad Friedel as Tottenham’s first-choice stopper at the beginning of the season, and has been in good form this campaign.

But he’s not the only name under consideration at the Nou Camp. Manchester United’s David De Gea has endured mixed fortunes at Old Trafford since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011.

United’s number one has been criticised by some sections of the media for high-profile errors in key games, but he silenced the doubters with a hugely impressive display against Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.

United are thought to view De Gea as their long-term number one, and he’s clearly highly-rated by the Old Trafford coaching staff. But he has also been linked with a return to Spain, and he’s now on Barcelona’s radar.

Pepe Reina is also thought to be identified as a possible Valdes replacement. The Liverpool keeper, like Valdes, is a back-up behind Iker Casillas for his country, and a move to the Nou Camp to join a Champions League club could be difficult to turn down.
