Nicklas Bendtner, the Arsenal striker on loan with Juventus, has been banned by the Danish Football Association for six months after being stopped by the police for violating traffic rules.
Bendtner, who has been out since December after sustaining a thigh injury in the Coppa Italia game against Cagliari, is prohibited from playing for the national side after events that took place last weekend.
According to the reports, the Danish star was caught driving on the wrong side of the road and was found intoxicated. DBU has set out a strong message to all the players in the team by banning their talisman, who has netted 22 goals for the national side. Bendtner has had 55 international caps to his name.
An official statement on DBU’s official website read: "Based on Nicklas Bendtner's traffic offence on Saturday night, which affected his public image in a negative way, DBU informed him that we take a clear distance from his breach of the Highway Code Section 53rd."
DBU expects the player to spend the next six months out of the team and would encourage him to get his public image right.
The statement added: "The Football Association expects that he spends the next six months on these considerations, and DBU then will be happy to take a dialogue with him about how he may in the future see himself positively contributing to the binding community around the men's first team."
The 25-year-old has, who played in the European Championships last summer, will miss a number of Denmark's qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, including games against Czech Republic and Bulgaria later in March.
