Legendary former Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has showered praise on Iker Casillas as Real Madrid prepare to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The former Manchester United great believes Casillas is already a legend in the game given the fact he has captured all there is to win at club and international level.
Casillas has triumphed with Spain at the World Cup and twice at the European Championships, while he has won the Champions League all the domestic titles in Spain with Real Madrid. Casillas, since making his debut in 1999 for Real Madrid, has played 476 games for the club.
"What can we say about Casillas? He is 31-years-old and has won everything. I think he started playing for the first team of Real Madrid at the age of 17 or 18 , that says everything," Van der Sar said, as reported by Goal.com.
"He has been wonderful for all this time for both Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.
Van der Sar admitted of not knowing the Spanish captain at a personal level having not encountered each other over their respective careers, but the ex-Ajax custodian recognises what an accomplished player and leader the 31-year-old is.
"I do not know him personally, but I see him, I read his interviews, and I've never heard anything bad about him," Van der Sar added. "He's a great captain for Real Madrid and for Spain."
Casillas, with the entire Real Madrid squad, has landed in Manchester for their enormous match-up, but still has a very low chance of playing against United in Tuesday’s do-or-die clash given the injury that ruled him out of the first leg.
