Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has admitted that he used to support Arsenal as a boy, claiming his love of Ian Wright and Thierry Henry is what prompted his unlikely allegiance to the Gunners.

The 23-year-old England international used to look up to the north London legends and modelled his own game on the two striker's when he was growing up.

"As a boy I loved Arsenal at the time," he revealed in an interview with LFC TV Online. "I supported Arsenal because of Ian Wright, and then Thierry Henry.

"They were characters, they scored goals, and everything about them I just loved. I also liked Newcastle [United] because of Faustino Asprilla."

Sturridge grew up in the Midlands, and played for Aston Villa and Coventry City in the early days of his youth team career, before signing for reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in 2003, at the age of 13.

Six years later, the forward completed a high-profile switch to Chelsea, where he struggled to cement his place in the Stamford Bridge first-team.

An impressive loan spell with Bolton Wanderers in the second half of the 2010/11 campaign put Sturridge back on the radar of potential suitors, and in January 2013, he made a £12million move to Anfield, which saw him reunited with former Chelsea youth team boss, Brendan Rodgers.

The striker has hit the ground running at Liverpool, scoring five goals and adding one assist in seven Reds appearances, and is building a promising understanding alongside Luis Suarez in attack.

In the latest edition of 'Inside Melwood', Sturridge opens up about his new Liverpool team-mates, his trademark celebration, his secret Arsenal allegiance, and what he'd be doing now if he hadn't become a professional footballer.
