This weekend’s action splits between Premier League and FA Cup, with Wigan’s trip to Everton the first match of the weekend in the quarter-finals.

The Toffees will start as favourites after seeing off Oldham Athletic in a replay in the last round, whilst the Latics were impressive in their emphatic victory over Huddersfield Town.

Manchester City host Barnsley in the day’s late cup kick-off, and Roberto Mancini’s side know the competition offers their only chance of significant silverware this season.

The match offers the Tykes some relief from a Championship relegation battle, but anything other than defeat would be a major shock at the Etihad Stadium.

Sandwiched in between the two ties, four league matches are set to have major implications on the bottom of the table.

Reading host Aston Villa in a game neither side can afford to lose, whilst QPR can move closer to their rivals with a win at home to Sunderland – who aren’t out of trouble themselves.

Southampton, whose defensive problems could prove to be an Achilles heel this season, travel to Norwich in hope more than expectation, whilst West Brom host Swansea in a battle of two mid-table sides.

On Sunday, two Europa League sides are in league action, with Newcastle hosting Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur traveling to Liverpool.

However, the Super Sunday clash is overshadowed by the day’s late FA Cup kick-off, with Chelsea travelling to Manchester United in the pick of the weekend’s matches.

Rafa Benitez and Sir Alex Ferguson will continue their feud at Old Trafford, and both come into the match on the back of disappointing European nights.

Before that, Millwall and Blackburn meet in an all-Championship clash at the New Den in a fixture that guarantees a lower league team in the last four.
