£23m Everton star sparks summer exit talk

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has reignited rumours of a Goodison Park exit this summer after cancelling an autograph signing session with fans amid fears of a supporters' backlash, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Fellaini's last-minute cancellation at the Goodison Park megastore came after Everton were dumped out of the FA Cup by Wigan.

The report claims the Belgium international was involved in a verbal slanging match with fans during and after the match on Saturday, and wanted to avoid further confrontation with unhappy supporters at the autograph signing.

Fellaini was the subject of Everton fans' ire at the weekend, and was the target for verbal abuse as he departed the stadium after a below-par display for the Toffees. He was substituted early in the second half.

Fellaini was scheduled to appear between 5-6pm on Monday night at the Everton club shop to meet match-goers and pose for photographs, but he did not appear.

The Belgian subsequently took to his Twitter account to apologise to fans for his cancellation.

Fellaini said: "Sorry to the Everton fans, I cannot make the signing session this afternoon. Will do another one soon. Felly."

The former-Standard Liege midfielder has been linked with a move to Chelsea, and the report claims Fellaini can leave Everton at the end of the campaign if his £23m minimum fee release clause is triggered by a Champions League club.

The Telegraph suggests that the midfielder's actions over the last three days have made a summer exit an increasingly likely possibility.

The Toffees star is the club's highest paid player - he's believed to be on close to £75,000-a-week.

His excellent start to the season prompted speculation that he could move to Chelsea, but Everton resisted all attempts to sell him in the January transfer window.
