Manchester United showed that they still hadn’t completely got over their Champions League defeat against Real Madrid as they entertained Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Although they looked to have taken the match to the Blues, scoring two goals in 11 minutes, thanks to a clever header from Javier Hernandez and a rather fortunate free-kick from Wayne Rooney.
It was a first half display that left Chelsea looking vulnerable at the back, and United extremely comfortable.
The second half was a completely different story, United were terrible with the exception of Carrick, who set up the first goal and was great in Midfield and De Gea who saved the Reds on two occasions most notably, the save from Mata’s shot, that could have easily have ended Sir Alex ferguson’s FA Cup dreams.
United look to have the league under wraps with a 12 point advantage over their bitter rivals Manchester City, but following their recent slip-up in the Champions League against Real Madrid they couldn’t get a result against Chelsea in the FA Cup and now must face Chelsea in a replay at Stamford Bridge with the winner facing City in the Semi-Finals at Wembley.
Ferguson's next match is a tough test against Reading who are second from the bottom in the League, but are looking to fight their way to safety.
Fergie will have to get his tactics dead on if they are to continue their good form in League.
City face a hard match away to Everton where anything but a win will dent their hopes of catching the Red Devils.
United are still on course for a domestic double this season, however they need to quickly forget about this past week and get back to winning ways immediately.
