Former Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo is unlikely to replace Brian McDermott at Reading, according to reports.

McDermott was sacked on Monday and Di Matteo, who was sacked by Chelsea in November, was initially installed as one of the favourites for the position.

Wayne Rooney hopes success for Manchester United this season will be a springboard to further glory for in the coming years.

United can still win the FA Cup and Premier League this term, and Rooney says any glory will provide young players with a greater sense of belief going forward.

Mikel Arteta has urged the Arsenal board to invest this summer in order to arrest the club's apparent demise.
