The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, and has attracted interest from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, as well as his former club.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been credited with an interest in bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, even after the Real Madrid star scored the goal that sent his old employers crashing out of the Champions League last-16, following a 3-2 aggregate defeat.
However, Ronaldo still has two years to run on his existing contract with the Primera Division giants, and has been told by close friends and his advisor that he would be better staying in the Spanish capital for one more season.
His decision will likely depend on the future of current Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, who is also expected to leave the club at the end of 2012/13, and incidentally has been linked with both PSG and Manchester United jobs, the latter of which he is rumoured to favour.
It's not yet clear when Ferguson will vacate the manager's position at Old Trafford, but Mourinho is the hot favourite to succeed the 71-year-old Scot when the time comes for him to retire.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, was touched by the reception he received from Manchester United fans on his first return to the club he left for Real Madrid in a £70million deal in 2009, which will have ensured the affection remains between the two parties forever more.
