Arsenal plot summer bid for France international

Malaga may have to brace themselves for another Arsenal raid in the summer as Arsene Wenger considers a move for midfielder Jeremy Toulalan.

A report in The Express claims the Gunners boss is interested in the France international and sees him as an ideal addition to his Emirates Stadium squad.

Toulalan is a combative defensive midfielder and Arsenal have lacked a player who plays that role naturally since the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona last summer.

Mikel Arteta has been filling in manfully but it is an unfamiliar role for the former Everton man and the Gunners have been vulnerable in defence all season.

The report claims Arsenal would be challenged for Toulalan’s signature by Malaga’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old moved to Malaga in 2011 from Ligue 1 side Lyon but their financial difficulties in the past year have seen them lose some key players.

Arsenal have been one of those to benefit from Malaga’s money problems in the past two seasons, having signed Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal.

Were Toulalan to join the in the summer, it would be the third transfer window in that Wenger had signed a Malaga star.
