Steven Gerrard believes the signing of Philippe Coutinho could help Liverpool take a step to the next level.
The skilful 20-year-old Brazilian has made an immediate impact at Anfield, although he is yet to play a full 90 minutes for the Reds.
After scoring once, assisting twice, and wowing the Anfield crowd with a series of deft touches and skills in his three starts so far, captain Gerrard has been quick to praise the star who is showing early potential of becoming a Liverpool hero.
"He's got moments of magical brilliance,” claimed Gerrard.
"I think you'll see the best of him next season when he gets a full pre-season under his belt and gets used to the speed of the game.
"What he has shown for 55 or 60 minutes is that he's a top player and he belongs in a Liverpool shirt.
"If we can get that for 90 minutes from him next season then he's going to be a great asset for us."
Coutinho has not played regular football since his loan spell at Espanyol last season, where he netted an impressive six times in 15 games from midfield.
After scoring on his full debut for Liverpool following his £8.5 million January switch from Inter Milan, the little Brazilian has had no problems settling in at Anfield with pundits, fans, and team-mates alike admiring his instant impact.
Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique agrees with his captain:
"The numbers speak for themselves: in four games he has two assists and one goal so I hope he will continue like this scoring goal and making assists,” he said.
"He is the type of a player, as a big team, you have to have.
"He can create from nothing in a one versus one. He is playing really well right now and he is the type of player we need.
"Defenders are important but you need people who can score goals and we have now."
