Chelsea star plays down Arsenal transfer link

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has rubbished suggestions that he could be set for a summer move to Arsenal, reports Sky Sports.

Yesterday, the Daily Mail reported that the 30-year-old had emerged as a surprise target for the Blues' Premier League rivals, adding that he was top of a six-man shortlist of stoppers the north Londoners were considering recruiting.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been linked with a number of different custodians as question marks continue to surround the long-term future of current first-choice Wojciech Szczesny.

The Polish stopper was recently dropped for Arsenal's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, in favour of returning compatriot Lukas Fabianski, and following the English club's 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena, Szczesny was on the bench again for the weekend's trip to Swansea - another match in which they prevailed 2-0.

However, Cech has distanced himself from speculation he could swap Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium next season, revealing that he could "not even imagine" playing for any of Chelsea's London rivals.

"It is an interesting piece of news but it is such speculation that I think it's not even necessary to comment on it," the former Sparta Prague goalkeeper told "I know of nothing, nobody has contacted me and, to be honest, I can't even imagine it.

"I don't even normally notice such rumours. But when it does get to me, I naturally look at it to know what to say about it later.

"There are players who do read newspapers. Some players read match reports to know what was written about them and where. I don't do this, I don't read newspapers because of such things. I don't take rumours like this seriously."
