Yaya Toure’s agent has claimed that the Ivorian midfielder is ready to leave Manchester City - if a new deal is not concluded by this weekend.
This is certainly news that no Manchester City fan wanted to hear. Toure was the outstanding player in City's success last season and if he was to leave it could have a devastating blow on their progression.
It looks as if the Premier League title is already in the hands of arch-rivals Manchester United once again, and the main focus for Roberto Mancini and the board should be to make sure the most vital players stay at the club, whilst disposing of the players who just rack up the wage bill.
Yaya Toure is not one of them, he is a man who is heavily relied on and missed when he goes on International duty at the African Cup of Nations as we witnessed last year in the title run-in.
Bringing in talented players is a priority for every club, including Manchester City - but to find a player similar to Toure’s qualities is extremely difficult, which means they must do everything in their power to ensure Toure remains a Manchester City player next season.
Nonetheless Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk has proclaimed that talks between his client and Manchester City Football Club have been ongoing for over six months now, regarding an extension to his current deal.
Toure’s current deal runs to 2015, and Seluk says that things have not gone according to plan and he does not feel that Yaya Toure will stay at the club next season.
The fact that Yaya Toure is Manchester City’s highest earner could lead to Toure buying himself out of the remainder of his deal, which he can do under Article 17 of FIFA’s transfer regulations.
If the situation does go that far, it is safe to say that the Manchester City owner’s will not let Yaya Toure go that easily, considering the importance of a player of his stature in the Manchester City line-up.
Seluk also says that it is not normal to have negotiations for six months about a contract, and that Manchester City have been talking about small details all this time. He also believes that Sheikh Mansour may need to intervene to avoid this situation getting out of hand.
Manchester City would need to conclude a deal early to make sure Toure stays focused, if not then there is no doubt a handful of clubs will be wanting his services for next season.
