According to recent reports, Manchester United are close to completing the purchase of 26-year-old Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay for around £15m, but what should fans of the club expect of the Argentina international?
The highly rated centre-back, who previously played for Real Madrid, has attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea, too.
But if the Red Devils have signed him, what exactly have they bought?
Standing at a massive 6ft 4in the Benfica defender is an assured presence on the pitch with plenty of strength to handle the rigours of the Premier League. He has also played 11 times for Argentina since making his international debut in 2007.
So far in his career he has scored 22 goals, all at club level, including one goal this season. Not bad for a central defender.
As well as his attacking capabilities he also is a very solid and reliable defender. His club, Benfica, have recorded a clean sheet in 57% of their games this season. with Garay being at the heart of their defence.
This surely is a quality that the Red Devils would need seeing as they conceded a ludicrous number of goals at the start of the campaign.
At 26, he is at just the right age where he is relatively young but still quite experienced and could easily last at least four more years at the very top level.
So what are the Red Devils getting for £15m? An experienced centre-half, who could pass on his wisdom to the younger players in the squad, with many more years to go.
What do you think? Is £15m too high a valuation? Do Manchester United need another centre-half? Post your thoughts in the comments section.
