Following a £50 million transfer from Liverpool in January 2011, Fernando Torres has never really been able to settle into the Chelsea side.
After first arriving at Chelsea, Torres had a barren spell in front of goal that lasted for 903 minutes.
But a lot was blamed on the way Chelsea's way of playing. Their game play was drilled to get the best out of Didier Drogba. And Torres, who was used to the ball being played to him at speed and at his feet, struggled as a result.
However, this season, with Drogba leaving the club, he was the main man and this was a huge boost of confidence for him. And also with a host of new talented and attacking players in Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses, Torres started to show some signs of consistency.
But old habits die hard, and soon Torres was off the target again and he started having more barren spells. The final nail in the coffin was the signing of Demba Ba from Newcastle. This showed that Roman Abramovich has finally lost his patience with Torres.
With Chelsea looking for a truly world-class striker to compliment their midfield, Radamel Falcao seems to fit the bill.
And a deal which will also include Torres going to Atletico where it all started for him would suit all the involved parties. One does hope that Torres is able to rediscover his form, which made him one of the most feared strikers in the world.
