Manchester United will step up their interest in signing Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio this summer, according to Italian publication Tuttosport.

The Turin-based newspaper reports how the Premier League giants have been trying to land the Italy international since 2010, and plan to make a renewed attempt to sign him when the transfer window reopens in July.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be driven by a personal desire to bring Marchisio to Old Trafford, as he looks to strengthen his midfield options ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

Having already made contact with Juventus through an intermediary, Manchester United are refusing to give up hope of securing the player's signature, even though it has been made clear that Antonio Conte has no intention of selling.

Marchisio himself has intimated that if he were to leave Serie 'A' it would more likely be for the Bundesliga, declaring a lack of interest in moving to England.

Manchester United's problem lies not in competition from other clubs, but the simple fact that Marchisio is perfectly happy in Turin.

Under contract with the Bianconeri until 2016, Marchisio would attract a bid in the region  of £25million from Manchester United. But, even that is unlikely to change Juventus' current stance, to keep hold of the 27-year-old for the foreseeable future.
