At the age of 34, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has found chances limited in the England starting line-up in recent months, due to the incoming young talents of Tom Cleverley and Jack Wilshere.
Frank Lampard has 95 caps for England, scoring 28 goals, having first made his international debut in 1999. The Romford born midfielder has featured in numerous major tournaments, including two European Championships and two World Cups.
However, Lampard playing in the 2014 World Cup has caused concerns due to him not being guaranteed a spot.
With England not having won a major trophy since 1966 and not looked close to winning one in recent time, many fans would question the team selections. With Lampard consistently playing for England over the past decade, fans would pronounce him to be partly responsible for England's limited glory success.
Young talents Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverley have both made a recent breakthrough into the national team and are now causing a serious threat to Lampard's international status.
Additionally, "improved" Michael Carrick, James Milner and Scott Parker are also battling it out for the key role in central-midfield, after impressing over the course of the Premier League seasons.
Steven Gerrard is the captain of the side, and although he is another ageing star, it's unlikely he will be dislodged if injury free.
And after last nights 1-1 draw in Montenegro, Lampard was an unused substitute, so perhaps we are starting to see the phasing out of the Chelsea man.
Would the English nation be disheartened with the removal of Lampard from the England squad? His dedication, commitment and goals may portray one answer, but his age and his potential replacements can also convey a different answer.
It's a question that should be answered in the not too distant future.
