Manchester City captian Vincent Kompany has made a return to first-team action after playing 90 minutes for Belgium in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Macedonia.

Despite not featuring for the defending champions since January 26, the Belgian captained the national side and helped them to cement their place at the top of Group A.

The defender had been sidelined with a calf injury after coming off 40 minutes into City's FA Cup tie away to Stoke but seemed to come through the World Cup qualifier unscathed.

It will be a massive boost for boss Roberto Mancini who is also likely to be able to welcome back Sergio Aguero for Saturday's league match against Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero has been suffering from a knee injury which has ruled him out for the whole of March and, although the Argentinian missed his country's qualifiers this week against Venezuela an Bolivia, he is back in training.

Yaya Toure should also start for City after he missed the defeat at Everton with a migraine.
