Wenger: We aren't focused on Tottenham

Arsene Wenger insists he is not focused on beating Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification as the Premier League gets back underway this weekend.

Arsenal resume their league campaign at home to Reading on Saturday, four points behind rivals Spurs with a game in hand.

Tottenham currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot, but have seen their advantage of seven points over Arsenal dwindle following successive defeats against Liverpool and Fulham.

Since losing to Tottenham in the north London derby earlier this month, Arsenal have picked up three wins on the bounce including victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League - although they exited the competition on away goals.

The Gunners appear to have the easier run-in with nine games to go, and Wenger says the key to Arsenal claiming a top four spot this season is to focus on their own efforts rather than look elsewhere.

"We've got nine games to go - five at home and four away," said the Arsenal manager. "The form we showed against Bayern was very good. We have a chance to finish in the top four.

"We have the experience of a few years and a special desire to do it together. It's a good opportunity for us. We want to grab this chance. If we are consistent we will do it. We're not focused on Tottenham, but the way we want to play.

Wenger's side go into the game against Reading, who unveiled Nigel Adkins as their new manager this week, as the pre-match favourites, but face a growing injury list as the season reaches it's climax.

Key duo Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott will both miss the game while Kieran Gibbs could also be ruled out with the flu.

Referring to Wilshere's injury, Wenger said: "I think two weeks on Sunday. Not the next game, but the game after. We deferred his rehab and gave him an extra week's rest. Medically, it was wise to do it."
