Real Madrid have been superb so far in the Champions League and look like favourites to secure their tenth Champions League title at Wembley. We pick the four main reasons why Madrid can win the Champions league.
Ronaldo came out at the start of the season claiming he was unhappy at Madrid and rumours were circulating that he wanted a move away from the Spanish capital.
However, fast-forward to the business end of the season and the Portuguese international is the joint top scorer in the Champions League whom he faces in the quarterfinal of the competition.
Ronaldo has been sublime for Real Madrid in the Champions league with two vital goals against Manchester United in the last-16 stage to guide Los Blancos to their third quarter final in a row.
He has shown a burning desire to claim the Champions League crown this season especially after losing out on his second straight league title. If Real Madrid keep him fit and happy then they stand every chance of reclaiming the trophy they all want.
Jose Mourinho is in charge
How many times has Mourinho proved us wrong? After a disappointing start to the season, Mourinho found his Real Madrid side an alarming 16 points behind Barcelona - calls for his head were heard among the Bernabeu faithful. However, he has since masterminded the elimination of Barcelona in the semi finals of the Copa Del Rey and the last-eight of the Champions League
Lady Luck is on their side
Real Madrid could have easily been out of the Champions League. Manchester United outplayed them for large periods of the return leg, finding themselves a goal behind but a debatable red card swung the tie in Madrid’s favour and goals from Luka Modric and Ronaldo was enough to see them through.
There will be no repeat of last seasons’ bad luck when they crashed out to Bayern Munich on penalties.
They have got the better of Barcelona
At the Nou Camp, Barcelona simply could not contain Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey. For the first time since the Pep Guardiola era, Madrid looked the better side throughout the 90 minutes during the second leg of their semi final encounter.
They have gone unbeaten in their last five meetings against Barcelona and, although the league may be out of reach, they look to have to upper hand when going head-to-head.
Barcelona are arguably the only team left who can stop Real Madrid and the Catalan club will have to up their game if they are to stop Jose Mourinho from winning the Champions League with his third different club.
