Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has declared star striker Luis Suarez is not for sale.

The Uruguayan frontman is reportedly being courted by some leading powerhouses in European football including Bundesliga and Serie A leaders Bayern Munich and Juventus respectively.

The 26-year-old has been in sparkling form this season and leads the goalscoring charts in the Premier League with 22 to his name.

Suarez arrived at Anfield in 2011 for £22.8million from Ajax and has a been a success upon Merseyside despite a few contentious moments in his Liverpool career.

The controversial centre-forward has been involved in some highly disputed situations, most notably his feud with Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra when he was found guilty of racially abusing the Frenchman last season.

However, Rodgers believes that the striker is a key part of his team and a massive component in restoring Liverpool back to the domestic power they once were.

Suarez has scored 50 goals in 93 appearances for the Reds since signing and his fine form this term has has seen him become a clear contender for the PFA Player of the Year award.

"He is a wonderful player. He came back late on Thursday, was in training on Friday and I saw how tired he was. He looked totally shattered from all the travel and all the exertions of the games," Rodgers was quoted on ESPN saying.

"But you look at him at Villa, his energy and willingness to work for the team and just his sheer quality. We don't have to sell Luis.

"There is nothing like that. He is very happy and we don't need to sell him for the money or anything like that.

"Our job is trying to build the group here and add to it. We've bought front and midfield players and we want to keep striving forward and there is no need to sell."
